Hey, all!
Our club was approved for professional development today! The one catch is that we are asked to provide some sort of assessment for credit. When I turn in our names and credit request, I need to be able to say that we were held accountable for our learning...you know the drill!
I know that reading the book takes up the bulk of our prep time for the meetings, so I said that our assessment will be a "toolbox" (thank you, Jill!). I'm thinking that each month, one or two people can share some strategy or lesson plan that they use to teach novels in their classroom. It can be an idea specific to the book we are discussing, specific to a curriculum novel, or more generic (like a character study or silent sustained reading strategy). These two people would provide copies of any graphic organizers or handouts explaining the process. The key is to keep it simple! Don't spend hours on this presentation. It should be things that you've tried or are planning to try--I'm all about the usability factor.
I am open to suggestions, though. (We may even be able to utilize this blog as some sort of assessment!) Please let me know how you feel about this by commenting or starting a new blog post. I've added you all as authors using your school addresses--you may need to set up a password with blogspot/google blogger to author a post, but anyone can comment, just check the "anonymous" indentification and be sure to put your name in the comment!
Just so you know, 14 hours of meeting time will be one semester credit hour for lane change. Anything less will be relicensure points. This will require that we keep a roll at the meeting, since I will have to turn in CACTUS numbers and hours towards the end of the school year.
Happy Blogging!

It seems like a great idea. I would rather post the strategy on the blog and let people print them as they see fit. What do you think about that?
I think this assessment idea sounds wonderful. It's simple and useful - two very important things. It will be the collaboration part of the endorsement classes that I enjoyed so much.
